Those who are lucky enough to receive vacation time as part of their employment spend all year thinking about what they’re going to do for those precious two or three weeks. The persistence of the Great Recession has already seen people grow bored with the “stay-cation”. No matter how they pull off the financing, people are starting to get out and travel more than they have in the recent past.

No Matter Where You Go

Many will go no farther than Mexico’s port cities, or the Caribbean. Some will stick to no-passport-required travel, taking in the sights and flavors of Hawaii or Alaska. Others will stay even closer to home, hitting up such popular attractions as the Rocky Mountains, the Great Lakes, the Disney theme parks (and others), Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks, or even good ol’ Branson, Missouri. The Most Dangerous Places on Earth

Got a death wish? Maybe you just like the thrill of doing something that could bring your life to an instantaneous end. Either way, the following places may be of interest to you.

More to Fear than just People

Anyone can make a list of the most dangerous cities in the world. I mean seriously; Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, South Africa and Brazil have more going on than any one city should have to endure. And don’t even think of going to Colombia for ‘real’ coffee beans. But what if it’s not the people of which you have to be afraid? No matter where you go, people kill people. That’s a cold hard fact. But when rape, murder and robbery aren’t the chief causes of a specific area’s funerals… What is? Going to McDonald’s isn’t usually a horrifying experience… Unless it’s at Scott Base in Antarctica where temperatures can drop below -100 degrees Fahrenheit. There is no food for which to forage, no hospitals to make you better and no information booth, should you get lost. Less than 1 hour in the wind and freezing temperatures will definitely grant anyone’s death wish.

Well that’s Just Silly

Then again, there are some places that people choose to live that make you question “what could you possibly have been thinking?” Living at the bottom of an active volcano for instance… The island of Java’s Mount Marapi (“Fire Mountain”, hello?) would not be my first choice for prime real estate. As much as I love the tropics, and actually do plan to retire there, hurricane season is probably a good time to take a vacation away from vacationland! There are certain areas of the tropics (Cayman Islands) that get hit year after year. C’mon people! They don’t call it the hurricane capital of the world for nothing!

Of course you could always go to Oklahoma and tour Tornado Alley with the storm chasers, but start by getting some funeral insurance.

Traveling With Your Pet This Summer


Traveling in the summertime is difficult enough for people, but imagine how uncomfortable it must be for your pet. Thankfully, there are things that we can do to make it more comfortable and enjoyable for our little companions.

Beat the Heat

The most important rule of traveling with pets in the summer is never leave them in the car, not even for a minute to get directions or grab a drink.
